Frieeeend-ship.... Friendship.
More Joe Lieberman from today's morning shows. While deliberate and industrious in pushing his talking points about Barack Obama and his failure of a foreign policy, Joe couldn't avoid the really tough question all his interviewers wanted to ask: does he still have any friends?
Note Joe's remark to former Democratic Tennessee Representative and current DLC chairman Harold Ford, Jr. at the 1:46 mark: "You're that kind of Democrat that we need more of." Ouch. That's not gonna be good for Ford-Moulitsas relations.
And just full disclosure: this post's headline was inspired by the 2:38 mark of this clip from the unsung cinematic classic, Safe Men.

With Lie-bermans head shoved far up McSame's rectum, and McSame's head still shoved far up Bush's rectum, Lie-berman hears an echo and thinks he ain't alone in this one.

Just look at the size of Joe's head compared to the Ford's or either Joe. (lots of them in this clip!) That says it all!
They kept harping on all the Dems abandoning him in 2006 over one issue. I think Obama did not jump in and campaign for Lamont in deference to Lieberschmuck. How come he forgot to mention this?
Me. Me. Me. He knew he held all the cards that Harry needed. Joe has a big ego. How does he get it to not work on Shabbat?

Poor little quisling Joe. The whole world around him has changed but him. (Que air violins.)
Maybe he needs to have a profile on Facebook.

I am tired of the news organizations pushing the false story line that the Democratic party abandoned Lieberman. The Democrats stood by him as long as they could, but primaries are held for a reason. If the Democrats were to ignore the will of the voters there, then what was the point of having the primaries in the first place? This is coming from someone who supported him in 2006, but I'm tired of him wallowing in his own self-pity over this.

It's also interesting that when Holy Joe is talking to Scarborough, they're both "shocked" that the Dems "turned" on him "over one issue!!!" Isn't that a little hypocritical when he's endorsed the supposed rival candidate "over one issue!!!"? What are the recall laws in CT anyway?

I want to see the Republican arm of the Democratic Party the DLC, minimized as much as possible. I read yesterday, Raul Emanuel wanted to be Speaker of the House. I cringed and my teeth hurt reading it. That would put people like Ford, and Al From in charge. Would that the DNC and Howard Dean be able to put them out of business. For Ford to say we need more Lieberman's in the Democratic Party means he wants more back stabbers, platitudiness, patronizing, condescending assholes like himself. That organization attempted to take credit for the Democrats wins in 2006 and it was Dean and his 50 State Initiative that did it. The same with Schumer in the Senate.

It was actually Lieberman that said we need more Dems like Ford. Not the other way around.

Of course, if I had my way, Lieberman would be in prison right now -- where I'm sure he would make LOTS of new friends very quickly.

Lieberman is an absolute utter shit. Ford is just a DLC turd. Ford comes on blogs like TPM and talks about unity and how the DLC and progressives are both wings of the same party; but he never misses an opportunity to attack left blogs and MoveOn in his friendly corporate press. We can never change the direction of America until the DLC is marginalized and hopefully gone. There would not be a Lieberman if he had not gotten unwavering support from the scummy DLC.

nellieh with all due respect that's bullshit. Rahm may be a foulmouthed dick but as DCCC head his responsibility was to recruit candidates who could win in 2006 and then help them win. In early 2005 the pickings were slim, it was very hard to find candidates, especially in Republican districts after Kerry lost.
Emanuel's one mandatory requirement for these candidates was they had to be able to raise money on their own. When you're talking NC or rural PA you're not going to find Dems who get a 100% rating from NARAL or the ACLU.
He spent all of 2006 crisscrossing the country exhorting these candidates to work harder and smarter and browbeating contributors to pony up. He spent so much time away from home one of his kids refused to talk to him on the phone anymore when he called home he was so upset. In the end he raised and spent over $120 million for Democratic house candidates in 2006 and spread that largesse out to four tiers of candidates. Nobody expected him to be able to raise that kind of money, my guess including him, or the massive turn against Republicans that made competitive races out of lost causes. He managed all that on the fly from the road and despite any failings on the issues and his lack of netroot popularity he succeeded at his job way beyond expectations.
The netroots, Bush and Republican scandals were instrumental in turning the tide. But as for money the netroots raised only $20 million for our candidates.
Dean borrowed $10 million in October 2006 and from what I read held $6 million back. We're in the business of winning elections. You go all in to win as many as you can and raise more cash later. That's what Republicans do. That's what we've always done. Remember the shit Kerry caught for ending the 2004 campaign with $15 million in the bank? Understandable if he was saving it for a recount in FL or OH but he didn't do that. There were races we might have pushed over the top in 2006 if Dean had spent that $6 million. There wasn't any reason not too. Success breeds successful fundraising. I like the 50 state strategy as much anybody but the purpose of it too is to win elections. When there's an election, especially a pendulum swinging one like 2006 you go into the red to win.
As far as I'm concerned the DLC is a dying organization. They weren't responsible for 2006. The DNC also didn't do as much as they could have but the DCCC and DSCC outperformed everybody at raising cash. Those are facts.

Hey, Mark.
I'm not going to disagree that the DCCC and DSCC raised more money than expected in the 2006 cycle. And I'm glad they did. But my take on it is that they were the only lifeboats in the water when the tidal wave started.
I'm sure Rham worked very hard, but I didn't like a lot of the decisions he (and "they", the DLC wing of the party) made -- for example, airlifting Tammy Duckworth into the IL-6th when Christine Cegelis was already in a strong position to contend for that seat (at least in my opinion).
So I think it's a little harsh to call nellieh's comments "bullshit". Of course, nellieh's comments were a little harsh, too. But in general, I agree -- no love for the DLC, DCCC, DSCC.
This cycle I'm supporting individual candidates through ActBlue, and for general progressive support I'm pooling my money with Russ Fiengold's Progressive Patriots Fund:

and Al Franken's Midwest Values PAC:

ARG in Chicago I don't do PACs and I always make my contributions to individual candidates unless some organization like the DCCC or DSCC shows some love to candidates I like that I think deserves rewarding. I prefer making my preferences known directly rather than doing it thru Markos or Atrios which dilutes my say and increases theirs.
I volunteered for Duckworth in the 6th. Let me tell you what I know. Durbin, not Rahm or any DLCer recruited Tammy. With Hyde retiring and the district being right between Hastert's and Emanuel this was destined to be a big money race from the start.
Cegelis raised all of $363,000 after the 2004 election to when she closed out her FEC filing in June 2006. That wasn't gonna cut it. Lindy Scott thought she was beatable enough in the primary to enter the race in August 2005. If you accept that Cegelis was the most progressive candidate his 16% of the vote came mostly at Duckworth's expense.
Roskam had $1,000,000 on primary day in 2006 and Duckworth who entered the race in mid December 2003 pulled in $750,000 by March 20. She got $250,000 each from Hillary and Kerry at Durbin's behest and raised the rest from the widespread publicity she got immediately after announcing. She was on 60 Minutes and too many other network broadcasts to count. Obama made a commercial for her in January. In the end Duckworth raised $4.2 million on her own and Roskam $3.2 million. The DCCC and NRCC each contributed about another $7 million to each.
Christine Cegelis never had a chance. Her campaign was disorganized and she didn't do enough fundraising to fend off 2 primary opponents who felt they could win the nomination despite her name recognition and what should have been a fundraising advantage if she'd bothered to put in the call time from 2004 to 2006.
Her campaign was based on bitterness against Duckworth instead of beating Roskam. Some of that bitterness lingers today. The new managers of the DuPage Dem party were Cegelis fans. They're great at self promotion and bitterly opposing those they perceive as enemies within the party. It remains to be seen if they can do more than that.
