TPMtv at Netroots Nation: Bob Barr
A good amount of attention is being paid to Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr for his potential to draw votes away from John McCain in places like Barr's home state of Georgia. We were surprised to find him mingling in the Netroots Nation lobby and took the opportunity to ask the former Republican congressman about his transformation from a "Republican bomb thrower" to a "Libertarian bomb thrower" and whether he "hates the bloggers" like John McCain does.
[Ed. note: the more eagle-eyed of you may notice what might appear to be a continuity error at the 2:00 mark. It is not one. TPMtv can assure its viewers that its camera did not run out of batteries 2 minutes into this interview and that TPMtv did not have to wait, furiously tapping its foot, for a few awkward minutes for TPM Deputy Publisher Andrew Golis to bring the backup batteries from TPMtv's camera case which had assuredly not foolishly been left behind in the media room upstairs. And that TPMtv did not then fail to notice and promptly remove the Coca-Cola bottle that, in the course of waiting for the replacement batteries, had been placed in the frame. No, TPMtv would never allow a sequence like that to occur because TPMtv is a highly, highly professional producer of video interviews. No, what actually happened is that a passing-by Coca-Cola Company marketing executive spotted TPMtv interviewing presidential candidate Bob Barr and in a whirlwind flurry of marketing mumbo jumbo struck an extremely lucrative deal with TPMtv that stipulated that his product, Coca-Cola, be placed prominently in the remainder of TPMtv's interview with presidential candidate Bob Barr. Also as part of the deal presidential candidate Bob Barr and TPM Managing Editor David Kurtz will star in a remake of this classic commercial, to air in all major media markets beginning in 2009.]
