Friday News Peg Time

The LA Times's Top of the Ticket blog reports that Robin Leach - yes, of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous fame - has come to John McCain's defense regarding his recent "number of houses" debacle:
In an early morning phone call Friday from his fabulous crib in Las Vegas, Leach told The Times that he isn't really surprised at McCain's odd memory lapse given the complex lives that the super-rich lead.

"He probably was confused as to which homes are in his name, his wife's name, or corporate names," Leach explained in his familiar, deep British baritone. "In his attempt to be honest, he put his foot in his mouth."

"Sedona Surprises" Indeed

Josh already noted this on TPM, but TPMtv is far too big a fan of Meghan McCain's McCain Blogette blog to let this one slide without the full Vid-nalysis™ [Ed. note: not really ™].

TPMtv: A Chat with John Barry

Your Daily Politics Video Blog: Saturday will be the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's initial formation over the Bahamas. When she washed over Mississippi and Louisiana six days later, on Aug. 29, 2005, she breached critical levees that were supposed to protect New Orleans. Hundreds drowned. At Netroots Nation in Austin TPMtv talked to author John Barry, a New Orleans resident who now serves on the Levee Board, about the current situation in New Orleans three years on and the reasons the rest of the country bears some responsibility for New Orleans becoming so vulnerable to storms:

"How Many Houses Do You and Mrs. McCain Have?"

That was the question. Here's the answer:

"I think, uuhh, I'll have my staff get to you."

John McCain Maniac Mansion!

Not really sure if that headline makes any sense, but Maniac Mansion was and is a great, great video game.

Anyway, early this morning Politico dropped the bombshell news that John McCain was unable to answer a question about how many houses he owns. Democrats jumped on it like a spider monkey:

TPMtv: Tuff Talk

David Gregory authoritatively proclaimed on Meet the Press last Sunday that when it comes to addressing the crisis in Georgia, "nuance doesn't work for Democrats," and noted Obama's perceived weakness relative to the Bush administration's "very tough language against Russia." Far be it from us to question Gregory's word, but we figured we would take a look for ourselves at just how tough the administration talk against Russia has really been:

Obama Gets Tough on McCain's Patriotism Attacks

Here's Barack Obama this morning at the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention, where McCain spoke yesterday, delivering a no-nonsense response to John McCain's campaign strategy of questioning Obama's patriotism: "Let me be clear: I will let no one question my love of this country."

What's the Big Idea?

When it comes to John McCain's campaign, Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA) can't quite put his finger on it:

Hat tip to like everybody, but whatever:
Think Progress
Carpetbagger Report
Crooks & Liars
TPM Election Central
NBC's Meet the Press

TPMtv chalks up its lackadaisicalness on this one to the fact that it is far more vigilant of Mitt Romney. TPMtv holds Mitt Romney to a higher standard.

Karl Rove?

This didn't really fit into today's Sunday Show Roundup, but TPMtv would feel remiss not to point out this excellent response from Governor Tim Kaine (D-VA), a potential Obama VP pick, to a Karl Rove attack line from last week:

Note Kaine's facetious reaction to Rove's name at the :10 mark. If everyone came together and collectively agreed to say that exact same thing in that exact same way every time Karl Rove's name was mentioned TPMtv would be extremely happy. Funny to see how msnbc.com handled it in the transcript:
MR. GREGORY: And perhaps a preview of Republican attacks against you. This was Karl Rove, former senior adviser to President Bush...

GOV. KAINE: Karl Rove?

TPMtv: Sunday Show Roundup: Georgia Veep Sweeps

The crisis in Georgia provided all the potential vice presidential candidates a crucible in which to do some last-second cramming for the big #2 job. We see how they did in today's Sunday Show Roundup:
