TPMtv: McCain Teeth Grit-A-Thon
We though McCain was steamed when he wouldn't make eye contact with Barack Obama. But he almost blew a fuse when he got some real questions from the editorial board of the Des Moines Register. In today's episode of TPMtv, we analyze the tapes (with a little help from the DSM-IV):

The man is D-E-L-U-S-I-O-N-A-L!

More than the Palin-interview debacles, this tape is evidence why McCain would make a horrible president. The man has deep anger and resentment at anyone who is not his lackey and completely accepting of his world-view. Keep him away from the atomic button!

subtle POW at the end of that one.

I think she was mayor at least once.
I love the repeating formula of "I strongly disagree with you"
Through tight teeth with a bit of spittle it is harder to perceive his actual civility.
I do love how he followed up his POW reference with his version with his wink - the equivalent of a finger cock and a head wobble.
Yeah baby.

His response to the question about the governmment-provided health care he received during his life is Palinesque in its irrelevance and incoherence. Although in McCain's case, it's probably due to his anger and not his ignorance.
He might have thought that the question was intended to suggest that he's been sucking at the government teat, or to suggest that he's not entitled to healthcare for life despite his government service, but the questioner might have been trying to make a different point, which is that the healthcare provided to the military is very cost-effective compared to the health care provided to private citizens.

I maintain that it's not so much that McCain wants to be president, or even that he wants to win, but he so hates to lose.
I think that he'd rather go out in a fiery blaze of horrific glory than even remain standing. I think he's delusional and self-destructing before our eyes.

He could improve with elocution lessons. Singers know better than to stress their 's' s. The s is softened to the point of being inaudible. If singers and actors have to do it, why shouldn't a president?
May the gods save us from having to listen to him for the next 4 years.

McCain continues to assert that the documentation for his specious attacks can be found on "our website." This would appear to be another lie. I could not find any documentation after a thorough search of his campaign site.

The documentation isn't on his campaign site. It's on his personal web site, which, I might add, he'll allow you to view once you get off his lawn.

Challenged about the "Obama wants comprehensive sex education for kindergarteners" claim, McCain replies:
Can anybody actually find where johnmccain.com says anything about that? Seriously, I'm looking for their documentation, statement, argument, anything, but not coming up with anything.
There's a chance I'm not finding it, or their own search engine hasn't indexed it. But I wouldn't put it past McCain's flailing campaign to hide non-existent evidence behind teh inscrutable intarwebs.
Hell, maybe Sarah Palin's multiple masterful foreign policy dissertations are in there somewhere as well.

He still brings up her membership in the PTA as a qualification for leadership. I've been a PTA member for 7 years--so I'm qualified to be Secretary of Education in McCain's cabinet, right?

Josh, I appreciate you putting these clips together but the commentary is mostly unnecessary, especially when it's not at all clear that McCain is as "angry" as you assert. He kept his voice level and calm in the midst of what are very challenging questions, but until I hear/see him truly explode, I think it's in all of our interests to judge the man free of preconceived imputations of his feelings. There's lots and lots to dislike about McCain, his policies, and his campaign tactics, but inventing uncontrolled rage in his poor/uneven/testy responses is only damaging to liberal arguments against him.

Ali I guess two people can watch the same thing and come away with different things but you must be blind not to see the see an hear the anger in McCain. I don't think Mr. Marshall was exagerating, McCains anger was palpable. But then thats my opinion. I don't see anything wrong in pointing it out!
