TPMtv: Will McCain Man Up?

Everybody's gaming out what McCain 'has to do' tonight. But we'll leave that to others. We're going to focus on the big questions: Will he make eye contact with Obama? And will he finally have the nerve to bring up Bill Ayers to Obama's face, as he's been doing all week on the stump, or flinch like last week?

I don't think he brings it up. Scheiffer might, but McCain won't, IMO.
I think McCain bringing it up with only appeal to his base, and what good is that? Those clowns are already planning on voting for him.
I think it will turn off the Independents and Moderates if he mentions Ayers.
OTOH, if Scheiffer asks him, he needs to respond. But how, exactly? Something in me says McCain knows this is a bullshit line of attack, which is why he didn't bring it up before. If he follows through how his base wants, Obama will publicly shoot him down and McCain will look like a bigger buffoon.
Bringing up Ayers will open Pandora's Box. Obama will challenge McCain to talk about every smear. And since none of them are valid, McCain will come out worse than he currently is.
I see no upside to him talking about it, only a very steep downside.

After the very bad day on Wall Street plus Bernacke's comment that the economy is headed for an "extended period of difficulty" if McCain does bring up Ayers, Wright or Rezko it will just make him look even more idiotic and out of touch. These are old issues from the primary that have already been dealt with effectively and truthfully by Obama.

I wonder if Obama would then bring up Liddy, Timmons (McCain's transition chairman who lobbied for Saddam Hussein), McCain's addiction to gambling, Davis, Keating 5 and the long list of unsavory lobbyists on McCain's campaign staff. And, will Obama bring up Palin, the "fatal cancer" on the Republican Party? I've been volunteering for Obama for 22 months and I cannot imagine him bringing up any of this unless he is able to do it in a very dignified manner.
